South Island Champs

18th - 21st April

After having to call a lay day on Friday, the Comp got underway at Blackhead on the Saturday morning with clean 1 to 1.5m waves.  There were a few upsets with defending champ JC Susan and last years SISA series winner Josh Thickpenny knocked out of the Open division.  Day two saw a return to Blackhead with conditions even better than the previous day.  There were some high scores posted all round with local surfer Hayley Coakes posting impressive scores in the Womens semis.  The Finals were completed on Monday morning in pumping Aramoana Spit.  In an epic and high scoring Open final, Tane Wallis got the better of a charging Maz Quinn with a 10 point tube ride near the end of the heat.
