Nau mai, haere mai, Welcome to the South Island Surfing Association.

SISA is the regional sports body for surfing in the South Island of Aotearoa. Incorporated in 1992, the association has now become the backbone of our surfing community here in Te Waipounamu (South Island)

It was recognised that there were limited opportunities for our Te Waipounamu surfers and instead of waiting for the national body to provide the solutions, SISA was born.

The association was formed to support South Island surfers in gaining competitive experience for National and International events and widening pathways for our Te Waipounamu surfing community.

SISA is built on the backs of volunteers with a can-do attitude who strive to hold high-quality surfing events. SISA is an Incorporated Society that is made up of volunteers from South Island-based Boardriders clubs and is incredibly proud of the way that Te Waipounamu Boardriders come together to support and develop surfing.

Our South Island clubs with the support of SISA, have created a great sense of whānaungatanga among their members, groms and spectators. There are now 16 SISA affiliated Clubs and over 750 members.

SISA supports all the forms of surfing: longboard, Stand Up Paddle boarding, shortboard,

bodyboard and bodysurfing.

Whānaungatanga - represents relationships with those who are considered whānau.

This includes people who may not be connected through direct whakapapa lineages but who feel like kin because of their shared experiences

SISA is affiliated with Surfing New Zealand - the national body for surfing in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
